Visits to state-of-the-art public reuse center models begin!
As part of the project's first activity, which aims to produce a strategy on how to develop innovative reuse centers for building materials salvaged from public sites in North-West-Europe, fieldwork has begun.
One of the first steps for us is to succeed in establishing a state of the art of the possible business models to set and run public reuse centers. To do this, we choose to meet the players in the field and understand how their platforms work in a variety of complementary ways.
During our visits, we look at the platform model in its overall context, and in particular at :
- Its scope of action
- The history of the center and its evolution
- The project's temporality and sustainability
- Involvement of public authorities
- Administrative and legal management of the site
- Types of materials used
- Source and destination of materials
- Business model
- General organization and team management
- Difficulties experienced and possible improvements
For this first visit, the teams went to Nancy (FR) to discover the Maison du réemploi and implement it on the Opalis online directory.
Since July 2024, we have visited 12 recycling centres and more than 40 reuse centers identified and documented.
Centers already visited :
La Maison du Réemploi, Nancy - La Base du Réemploi, Bordeaux - Cynéo, Vitry-sur-Seine - Batirécup, Rennes - Poitiers University Hospital - Cycle Up, Noisy-le-Sec - City of Brussels roadworks stock - Banco de materials, Porto - Paris cobblestone depot - Schaerbeek roadworks stock - Eterbeek roadworks stock - In Limbo, Brussels.
What is a reuse center for the PREUSE programme ?
- A site to store materials salvaged from public works,
- A site from where to source reusable materials for (public) works,
- A site operated by public authorities (or, at least, for public authorities),
- An overall solution for better managing public ressources.
